Do I need a paid AI subscription to use these?+

No. Skill files and prompt packs work on free plans of Claude and ChatGPT. A small number of MCP tools require a paid plan with API access — the product page always states this clearly before you buy.

What's the difference between a skill file and a prompt pack?+

A skill file is a permanent configuration — drop it in once and your AI keeps the behaviour across every future conversation, no re-prompting needed. A prompt pack is a set of individual prompts you copy and run manually, task by task.
