The Midjourney prompt formula

--ar W:H

Aspect ratio: 1:1, 4:5, 2:3, 16:9, 9:16. The studio adds it from your format choice.

--s 0-1000 and --style raw

Stylize: low is literal, high is artistic. Product and portrait shots get --style raw and --s 50-100 automatically.

--no items

Negative prompt as a list of nouns. Writing "no cars" in the text can ADD cars; the studio converts your avoid list.

--sref, --oref, --iw

Style reference, omni reference (V7, replaces --cref) and image weight for image prompts. Use images you own.

Five rules for Midjourney prompts

Phrases, not sentences "lit soy candle in an amber jar, oak bedside table, cozy evening bedroom" reads better than a paragraph.
Most important first Midjourney weighs early words more. Put the image type and subject at the start.
Only real parameters --ar, --s, --style raw, --chaos, --exp, --weird, --no, --seed, --sref/--sw, --oref/--ow, --iw, --v. Invented flags are ignored or break the prompt.
Fix the seed to compare Keep --seed the same while you change one word, and you will see exactly what that word does.
Text in images: 1-3 words Midjourney is weak at long text. Keep it short in quotes or add it later in a design tool.

How do I write a good Midjourney prompt?

Start with the image type and subject, add setting, framing, light, lens and style as short phrases, then the parameters. The studio puts them in that order for you.

What parameters does Midjourney V7 support?

The common ones: --ar, --s (stylize), --style raw, --chaos, --exp, --weird, --no, --seed, --sref with --sw, --oref with --ow, --iw and --v 7. --cref and --cw belong to V6.

Should I use --style raw?

Yes for photoreal products, portraits and anything that must look true to life. It removes some of Midjourney's default beautifying look. For art styles leave it off and raise --s.

How do negative prompts work in Midjourney?

Use --no followed by nouns: --no text, watermark. Do not write "no text" inside the description.
