How does this AI Perl tutor help if I only need to fix one inherited script?+

Say that at the start and the plan changes. It runs a reading track instead of a full course: sigils and context, then the specific constructs in your file, then the regex it uses. You paste a section at a time, it asks what you think a line does, and corrects your reading rather than lecturing. Most people can maintain their script within a few sessions.

Will it rewrite the script for me?+

No. It will explain any line you paste, and it will point at the line causing a bug, but it does not return a rewritten file. If you are refactoring, it works through one function with you and hands the next one back. The aim is that you can change the script next month without asking anyone, including this file.

Is Perl worth learning in 2026, and is this modern Perl or the old style?+

It is worth it when the code exists and someone has to own it, which is common in sysadmin work, bioinformatics and older infrastructure. The lessons use modern practice: strict and warnings, lexical filehandles, three argument open, CPAN modules with cpanm, Test::More. When you paste older idioms, it explains them so you can read them, then shows the current form.

Do I have to read it myself?+
