What does the AI Skill for InDesign do?+
It turns Claude or ChatGPT into an InDesign AI assistant that sits next to you while you lay out a document. It writes GREP expressions, plans styles and parent pages, sets up Data Merge files, diagnoses typography problems and gives you the exact export and Preflight settings for print, EPUB or interactive PDF.
Does it operate InDesign for me?+
No. The skill never opens or edits your InDesign document. It prepares what you need: Document Setup values, GREP expressions for the Find/Change dialog, CSV headers for Data Merge, Keep Options and Justification settings, export presets and small ExtendScript files you run from the Scripts panel.
Can it write GREP for InDesign Find/Change and GREP Styles?+
Yes. Describe the pattern in plain words (double spaces, straight quotes, prices, phone numbers, hanging short words at line ends) and it returns the Find and Change fields for the GREP tab, explains each token in a line, and warns when Change All could catch more than you intend.
Does it help with print-ready PDF export from InDesign?+
Yes. It gives you a Preflight checklist (missing links, fonts, overset text, RGB images, resolution), the Export Adobe PDF (Print) settings including PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4, marks and bleeds, and tells you when to use File > Package instead of sending a PDF.
