An Etsy listing is mostly words written under rules: a title of up to 140 characters, 13 tags of up to 20 characters each, attributes, a description and photo alt text. That is exactly the kind of work Claude does well, and it can do a whole shop in an afternoon. What it cannot know is what your buyers actually type into search, so feed it the search terms from your Etsy Stats and the phrases buyers use in your messages and reviews, and let it do the writing around them.
What does Claude need before it writes a listing?
- The product facts. Materials, size, colours, what is included, personalisation options, processing time. Claude will otherwise guess, and a guessed dimension becomes a return.
- Real search terms. Copy them from Etsy Stats for your existing listings, and from the search bar's autocomplete. Do not ask Claude what buyers search for; it does not know.
- Buyer language. Paste three or four reviews or messages. Buyers describe products differently from makers, and the listing should speak buyer.
- One listing that sells. Your best performer is the style guide.

Get Osei →How do you write a title buyers and Etsy search both read?
The 140-character limit is a ceiling, not a target. Etsy's own seller guidance has moved toward shorter, readable titles that describe the item plainly, with the extra keywords going into tags and attributes. A title stuffed with every synonym reads like spam on a phone screen, where most buyers see it.
How do you get all 13 tags right?
Tags are where most sellers waste slots: single words, duplicates of the category, or phrases over the 20-character limit that Etsy will not accept. Each tag should be a multi-word phrase a buyer might type, and each should cover something the title does not.
What should the description do?
Answer the questions a buyer would otherwise message you about, in the order they think of them: what it is, size and materials, what is included, personalisation, processing and shipping, care. Put the most important facts in the first lines, because that is what shows before "read more" on mobile. Ask Claude to draft it from your facts and your best listing, then to list every question a buyer could still have after reading it.

Etsy lets you download your listings as a CSV from Shop Manager settings. Paste a batch of 20 rows (title, tags, description, and the Stats search terms for each) and ask Claude for rewritten titles and tags in the same columns, with character counts. Review them in a spreadsheet, then update listings in Shop Manager. Work in batches so you can see what changed and measure it: rewrite one batch, wait for a few weeks of data, compare views and conversion against the batch you did not touch.

What about photos and alt text?
Claude cannot take your photos, but it can review them. Upload your listing images and ask what a buyer cannot tell from them: scale, back side, texture, what is in the box. Then ask for alt text for each image, one plain sentence describing what is shown. It helps buyers using screen readers and costs a minute per listing.
Where does Claude get Etsy listings wrong?
- It does not know search volume. Every keyword must come from your Stats or the search bar.
- It miscounts characters. Always ask for the count and spot-check a few. Etsy rejects tags over 20 characters.
- It invents details. "Handmade from organic cotton" appears when you said cotton. Keep the facts block in every prompt.
- It uses trademarks freely. Brand and character names in tags can get listings removed. Tell it to avoid them.
- It cannot see the competition. Paste competitor titles if you want it to position against them.
How do you install a skill in Claude?
A KissMySkills skill is a ZIP file with a SKILL.md at its root. In the Claude desktop app, open Customize → Skills, add a skill, upload the ZIP and toggle it on. Skills need code execution, which lives under Settings → Capabilities; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner controls it. Anthropic documents the steps in its Skills help article, and our step-by-step install guide has screenshots.
In ChatGPT or Gemini, open the SKILL.md in a text editor and paste it into custom instructions: a Claude Project, a custom GPT or a Gem. With a Library subscription you skip the file entirely: connect KissMySkills once and ask for the specialist by name in the chat you already use.
In summary:
Give Claude your facts, your Stats search terms and your buyers' words, and let it write titles, all 13 tags, descriptions and alt text under Etsy's limits. Osei ($19) carries the marketplace rules and the pricing and delivery side too.

Frequently asked questions
Can Claude write Etsy listings?
Yes. It can write titles, the 13 tags, descriptions and alt text from your product facts and search terms. You need to supply the facts and the keywords, because it does not know Etsy search data.
How long should an Etsy title be?
Etsy allows up to 140 characters, but shorter readable titles that start with what the item is tend to work better for buyers on mobile. Put extra keywords into tags and attributes instead.
How many tags can an Etsy listing have?
Thirteen, each up to 20 characters including spaces. Use multi-word phrases a buyer would type and do not repeat your category or attributes.
Can I update all my Etsy listings with AI at once?
You can download your listings as a CSV, have Claude rewrite titles and tags in batches, and then update them in Shop Manager. Work in batches so you can measure the effect.
Will AI-written listings get my Etsy shop penalised?
Etsy judges listings on accuracy and relevance, not on who wrote them. The risk is inaccurate details or trademarked terms, so check every fact and avoid brand names you do not own.
