A free image resizer that works on your device
This image resizer changes the width and height of JPG, PNG and WebP pictures right in your browser. Pick a social media preset, type exact pixel sizes, or scale by percent, then download one image or a ZIP of the whole batch. Your images are not uploaded anywhere, which matters for client work, private photos and anything under NDA.
Three ways to resize an image
Social presets
Each preset sets the exact output size that platforms commonly recommend, such as 1080 x 1350 for an Instagram portrait post or 1280 x 720 for a YouTube thumbnail. If your photo has a different shape, you choose what happens to the extra space (see below).
Pixels
Type a width, a height, or both. With the lock on, the tool keeps the aspect ratio and works out the other side for every image in the batch, so a set of portrait and landscape photos all come out 1200 pixels wide without distortion. Unlock it to force an exact size.
Percent
Scale every image by the same factor: 50 percent halves both sides, which leaves a quarter of the pixels. This is handy for shrinking a folder of camera photos before you email them.
Crop, pad or stretch: resize image files to a new shape
When the target shape differs from your photo, something has to give. Crop to fill scales the photo until it covers the whole frame and trims the overflow; use the Keep setting to protect the top, bottom, left or right instead of the centre. Fit + pad shows the whole photo and fills the empty bars with a colour of your choice, or with transparency for PNG and WebP. Stretch forces the photo into the frame and distorts it, which is rarely what you want for faces but can be fine for abstract backgrounds.
Common social media image sizes
Platforms change their layouts from time to time, so treat these as widely used starting points rather than official rules. All of them are available as presets.
| Use | Size (px) | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram square post | 1080 x 1080 | 1:1 |
| Instagram portrait post | 1080 x 1350 | 4:5 |
| Instagram Story, Reels, TikTok | 1080 x 1920 | 9:16 |
| Facebook link or post image | 1200 x 630 | 1.91:1 |
| LinkedIn post image | 1200 x 627 | 1.91:1 |
| LinkedIn profile banner | 1584 x 396 | 4:1 |
| X (Twitter) post image | 1600 x 900 | 16:9 |
| X header | 1500 x 500 | 3:1 |
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280 x 720 | 16:9 |
| YouTube channel banner | 2560 x 1440 | 16:9 |
| Pinterest pin | 1000 x 1500 | 2:3 |
Pixels, file size and the DPI myth
Resizing changes the number of pixels. File size usually drops with it, but the format and quality setting matter too: a PNG screenshot can stay large even when small, and a JPG at quality 88 is a good balance for photos. The DPI or PPI number stored in a file does not change how an image looks on a screen; only the pixel dimensions do. DPI matters for print, where you divide the pixels by the print size in inches.
Can you make a small image bigger?
You can, but resizing cannot invent detail that was never captured. Enlarging a 400 pixel logo to 2000 pixels gives a soft, blurry result, so the tool marks upscaled images with a warning. For sharp large versions, go back to the original file or a vector logo. Shrinking, on the other hand, is where this image resizer shines: it scales in several halving steps with high quality smoothing, which avoids the jagged edges and moire you get from a single big jump.
Tips for social images
- Keep text and faces away from the edges. Many apps crop previews differently on phones and desktops.
- Resize first, then write the post. The caption and hashtag generator and the guide to LinkedIn posts with ChatGPT can help with the words.

Frequently asked questions
Is this image resizer free and private?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Images are resized inside your browser and are never uploaded to KissMySkills or any other server.
How do I resize an image for Instagram?
Choose Social presets, then Instagram square (1080 x 1080), Instagram portrait (1080 x 1350) or Story / Reels (1080 x 1920). Pick Crop to fill to cover the frame, or Fit + pad to keep the whole photo with coloured bars, then download.
Can I resize many images at once?
Yes. Add up to 50 images. The same settings apply to all of them, and with the aspect ratio locked each image keeps its own shape. Download them one by one or as a single ZIP file.
Will resizing reduce the image quality?
Making an image smaller keeps it sharp, because the tool scales down in steps with high quality smoothing. Making it larger cannot add detail, so upscaled images can look soft; the tool warns you when that happens. JPG and WebP also use the quality setting you choose.
Does the resized image keep its metadata?
No. The resized copy does not keep EXIF data such as GPS location or camera details, because the browser re-encodes the pixels. Phone photos are rotated correctly before resizing, and your original file is not changed.
