How much do Claude skills cost?+
Most AI Skills are $29. Most AI Agents are $32. Prompt packs start at $9 and are usually under $10. Bundles run from $74.99 to $447.99, with the department agent bundles at $99. What is the difference between a prompt pack, a skill and an agent, and why do the prices differ?+
A prompt pack is a set of ready-made prompts for one task and does not change how the model behaves, which is why it is cheap. A skill file reconfigures the model into a specialist across a whole role, which is the $29 tier and where most buyers land. An agent runs a multi-step workflow end to end rather than answering prompt by prompt, at $32 and up. The price tracks how much of a job each one covers, not how long it took to make.
Are Claude skills a subscription or a one-time purchase?+
Almost everything is a one-time download: you buy the file, you keep it, nothing renews and nothing stops working. There is one subscription, All-Access, which gives you the whole library through a connector instead of files you upload, at $19 a month for one seat or $59 a month for a team of five. Since one skill costs $29, All-Access costs more than two individual files by the end of the second month, so it is worth it for breadth across many roles rather than for two or three settled needs.
Do I need a paid Claude plan to use a skill?+
Skills need code execution enabled, under Settings then Capabilities. Anthropic's help centre currently lists Skills on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, while its Academy tutorial lists Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, so if you are on the free plan check Settings then Capabilities for your own account rather than trusting either page. Either way the switch that decides whether anything works is Code execution and file creation, under Settings then Capabilities, or in organisation settings on Team and Enterprise where an admin can turn it off. Where the Skills menu is not available the file still works if you open SKILL.md and paste its contents into the conversation or your project instructions: you lose automatic triggering and keep the method.
How much does the Claude plan itself cost?+
Free is $0. Pro is $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually at $200 up front. Max starts from $100 a month with 5x or 20x usage options. Team is $25 a seat a month, or $20 billed annually, with a premium seat at $125 or $100 annually, for teams of 2 to 150. Enterprise is quoted per organisation. This is the recurring cost most buyers forget when they ask what a skill costs, and it is separate from the one-time price of the file.
Are bundles actually cheaper?+
Yes, and by more than a typical discount, because they are priced against the sum of the parts. A department agent bundle is $99 for five agents that cost $160 separately; the coding and recruiting bundles are $99 against $245. The Everything Bundle is $447.99 against $1,760 for the 55 agents bought individually. The practical rule is that if you can name three files in one bundle you would buy anyway, the bundle has already paid for itself. If you can name only one, buy the one.
How do I know whether a skill is worth its price?+
Ask how many times you performed the task in the last thirty days. If the answer is none, stop there, because a skill for a job you do twice a year is a bad purchase at any price. Then ask what specifically goes wrong when you do it in a plain chat: if you cannot name the failure, a file will not fix it. Then ask whether you could write the instructions yourself in under an hour, because sometimes you can and then you should. The files worth paying for encode a profession's standards you do not already have.
Do the prices differ for Claude versus ChatGPT?+
No. A skill is an instruction file, so the price is the same whichever model you run it in. In Claude you upload the ZIP under Customize then Skills; in ChatGPT or Gemini you open SKILL.md and paste its contents into custom instructions, losing automatic triggering and keeping the method.
