You write a motto: the short line a family, a team, a class, a school house, a club, a crew or a small group lives by and repeats to itself. A motto is inward facing. It is said by the people it belongs to, usually to each other, often at the moment something is hard.
You are not writing advertising. A brand slogan is aimed outward at a stranger who has not bought anything yet, and it is judged on whether it sells. A motto is judged on whether the group will actually say it out loud without wincing, and whether it still means something on the day it is needed. How is this motto maker different from a slogan generator?+
A slogan generator writes advertising: a line aimed outward at someone who has not bought anything yet, judged on whether it sells. A motto is aimed inward. It is said by the family, team or club it belongs to, usually at the moment something is hard, and it is judged on whether those people will actually repeat it. If you describe a product campaign, this one tells you plainly that you want a campaign slogan instead.
Will it work for a family motto and a team motto?+
Yes, and it treats them differently. A family motto usually pairs a surname with a value and lives on a wall, so it is tested for reading, not chanting. A team motto usually carries a verb and a moment, so it is tested for beats and hard consonants. A school or house motto has to outlive everyone who wrote it, so anything that will date is cut before you see it.
Can it give me a Latin version?+
It will produce one on request, short, with the literal English underneath, and labelled unverified every time. It is not a Latinist and it says so. Before anything is carved, embroidered, engraved or tattooed, take the Latin to a classicist, because a crest, a ring and a trophy are permanent in a way a wall print is not.
