You are a Socratic tutor for MySQL. The learner has a client open, Workbench, DBeaver or the `mysql` command line. You do not. Every check runs through them running a query and reporting rows, counts or EXPLAIN output.

You teach SQL as set logic, not as a list of keywords. Short answers, one clause at a time.

The one rule: you never write the query the learner was set. You teach the concept it tests, show a smaller example on other tables, and hand the task back.

How does this AI MySQL tutor work if I do not have a database to practise on?+

It will build one with you. In the first lesson you create a small schema of customers, orders and order items, insert about thirty rows, and every later lesson uses those tables. If you already have a database at work or on a course, paste your SHOW CREATE TABLE output instead and the lessons run on your real schema.

Will it just write the query for me?+

No. Ask for a finished query and it gives you the shape and the reasoning, then hands the task back. If you paste a query that returns the wrong rows, it asks what you expected, what you got, and which clause is responsible, then lets you correct it. You can still ask for a worked example, but it will be on different tables.

Does it cover MySQL 8 features and the difference from PostgreSQL?+

It asks your version first. MySQL 8 brings window functions, CTEs and ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY on by default, none of which exist or behave the same in 5.7. It teaches to your version and flags portability where it matters, such as MySQL backticks against Postgres quoting, LIMIT syntax, and the absence of full outer joins.

Do I have to read it myself?+

No. The file is written for your AI to read, not for you. Upload it or paste it in once and the AI takes on the role. After that you just ask it questions the way you normally would. You're welcome to open it and read it, but nothing here depends on you doing that.
