The short answer: if you are comfortable in a terminal and want to pay nothing, start with skills.sh or claudeskills.info. If you want paid skills that carry a published security scan, Agensi. If you want volume cheaply, Claude Protocol. If you want a finished, role-based specialist you install without opening a terminal, that is us, at $19 a skill. Every third-party figure below was re-checked against the vendor's own site on the date above, and some of them had moved a long way since this page was first written.
Browse our catalogue →We sell skills, so read this as a comparison written by an interested party. The way to use it is to check the claims: every third-party figure here is attributed to the vendor's own site and dated, and where we could not verify something directly we say so rather than repeating it. Third-party pricing and catalogue sizes change without notice.
Before the table: the catalogue numbers are not comparable
This is the thing that makes most roundups of this subject useless, including the earlier version of this one. You will see figures like 800,000 skills next to 501 skills and conclude that one is a thousand times bigger. They are counting different objects.
The large numbers come from crawling GitHub for files named SKILL.md. That is a search index, and most of what it indexes is somebody's weekend experiment, a fork of a fork, or a template with three lines in it. A filter like "at least two GitHub stars" is a popularity threshold, not a review. The small numbers come from catalogues where somebody wrote and maintains each file. Those two things should never appear in the same column without a label, so in the table below they are labelled.
The second thing nobody says: no marketplace anywhere, ours included, publishes a benchmark showing a skill improves output. There is no shared test set and no before-and-after. Install counts measure curiosity. Treat every catalogue size on this page, including ours, as a measure of how much exists rather than how much is good.

What changed since this page was first published
Worth stating plainly, because it is the argument for distrusting any undated roundup, this one included.
- Agensi has roughly tripled. This page previously said 2,000+ skills; the site now states 6,000+, with 6,374 live for Claude Code. It also runs a Codex marketplace that did not feature in the original comparison.
- The domain we cited was wrong. Agensi is at agensi.io. If you searched the other spelling you found nothing.
- Our own prices on this page were out of date and are corrected here: skills are $19 and the Finance Agent Bundle is $99. That was our error, not a price rise, and it is the reason this page now carries a checked-on date at the top.
- skills.sh has broadened well beyond Claude, now targeting 20-odd agents, which makes it the better choice if you are not only a Claude user.
Which one is right for you
You write code and want to pay nothing
Use skills.sh. One command to install, ranked by how many people actually installed each skill, and it targets far more than Claude. claudeskills.info is the better browse for breadth, and it points at the original repository so you can read the file before it touches your machine. Do read it.
You want something Anthropic has looked at
Use the official anthropics/skills repository and the plugin directory inside Claude Code. The catalogue is tiny next to the aggregators, and that is the entire point: it is reviewed rather than crawled. If you are installing into an agent with access to a real codebase, starting here is the conservative choice and a good one.
You want paid skills with a published safety check
Use Agensi. Its automated scan covers prompt injection, credential exfiltration, destructive shell commands and unexpected network calls, and the result is shown on every listing. That is more than anyone else in this list publishes, including us, and for a file you are about to hand to an agent with filesystem access it is a real differentiator rather than a marketing line. Agensi also publishes figures from its own audit of the wider ecosystem; treat those as a vendor's numbers about a product it sells, and weigh them accordingly, but the underlying point that unreviewed skill files carry real risk is correct.
You want a lot of business skills cheaply
Look at Claude Protocol. At $99 for all 501 files it is the lowest cost per file of anything paid here. You are buying volume rather than depth, so expect to edit.
You are not a developer and want one finished specialist
That is what we do. You get a named role written as a working brief rather than a template, delivered as a ZIP you upload without opening a terminal, with a 30-day money-back guarantee and free generators so you can see the output style before spending anything. If you are a developer who is happy reading and editing markdown, one of the free options above will probably serve you better, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise.
Upload it, switch it on, and Claude produces content calendars, campaign briefs and editorial strategy without you writing the prompt scaffolding first. One payment, no subscription.

For a skill that arrives as a ZIP with SKILL.md at the root:
- Open the Claude desktop app, click Customize in the left sidebar, then Skills.
- Click + and upload the ZIP. Claude reads the
SKILL.mdand shows a summary of what it does. - Toggle the skill on. Off means Claude ignores it entirely.
- Describe your task normally. Claude pulls the skill in when the work matches it.
One distinction catches almost everybody out, because Anthropic uses the word Skills for two different things. Pre-built Skills, the ones Anthropic ships, are listed by the Claude help centre on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. Custom Skills - a ZIP you upload yourself, which is what every paid marketplace on this page sells - are listed in Anthropic's developer documentation as available on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise with code execution enabled. Skills need code execution enabled, under Settings → Capabilities. Anthropic's help centre currently lists Skills on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, while its Academy tutorial lists Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise - so if you are on the free plan, check Settings → Capabilities for your own account rather than taking either page's word for it.
Either way the switch that actually decides whether anything works is Code execution and file creation, under Settings then Capabilities on an individual account, or in organisation settings on Team and Enterprise where an owner controls it. A greyed-out Skills menu is almost always that. If you cannot enable it, or you are in ChatGPT or Gemini, open the SKILL.md, copy the contents and paste them into custom instructions: you lose automatic triggering and keep the method. The full walkthrough is in the skill installation guide.
For free GitHub skills the install is different again: drop the folder into your skills directory yourself, or let npx skills add or Agensi's one-liner do it. Read the file first. It is instructions that will run inside an agent that may be able to read your files, run commands and fetch URLs.
What none of these marketplaces do
The part the roundups skip, ours previously included.
- Nobody benchmarks whether a skill improves output. No shared test set, no published before-and-after, anywhere on this list. That includes us.
- Catalogue size is a scraping statistic, not a quality signal wherever the catalogue is crawled rather than written.
- A free skill file is unreviewed instructions handed to an agent. That is why the one published security scan in this comparison is worth something.
- A skill cannot supply information you did not give it. It changes how the model works, not what it knows. Ask a CFO skill about your margins without pasting your numbers and you get a plausible structure filled with nothing.
- No skill knows your specifics. A legal skill does not know your jurisdiction; a finance skill does not know your accounting policy. At every price, you supply that and you check the output.
- Refund terms differ everywhere, and free GitHub skills come with no support or guarantee at all. Check before you pay.
Structures financial narratives, pushes back on assumptions, and turns your figures into board-ready reporting. Bring the numbers; it brings the shape - and it will tell you which numbers are missing rather than inventing them.

- No terminal at any point. ZIP upload in the desktop app, or copy-paste into custom instructions for ChatGPT and Gemini.
- Try the output before you pay. The free generators need no sign-up.

Five finance agents in one download, for when a single CFO skill is not the whole job. The rule of thumb: if you can name three of the five you would buy anyway, the bundle has already paid for itself.
View Finance Agent Bundle →In summary:
Free and comfortable with a terminal: skills.sh, claudeskills.info, or Anthropic's own directory. Paid with a published security scan: Agensi. Volume on a budget: Claude Protocol at $99 for 501 files. A finished, no-code specialist for Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini: Ryan - Chief of Staff or Victor - CFO at $19, or the Finance Agent Bundle at $99 for five. Ignore raw catalogue sizes unless you know whether they were written or crawled, and remember that nobody, us included, has published evidence that any of these files measurably improve output.
