Can Claude write in my voice?+
It can copy your surface voice from three samples in about a minute: sentence length, punctuation habits, the constructions you favour. What it cannot infer from samples is your judgement, and that is what actually identifies you. A model matching your style will write, in your exact cadence, a claim slightly bolder than you would make or a concession you would never offer. Build a positions file first - what you believe, what you concede, what you refuse to claim, who you are arguing with - and match the style afterwards.
Why does AI writing not sound like me even with samples?+
Because what gives a ghostwritten piece away is never the prose. Fluent prose is the one thing these tools are reliably good at. It is the take that is off: an enthusiasm you do not have, a fight you would not pick, a position you have publicly argued against. Readers who know you do not think this is AI, they think that does not sound like something he would say, which is a judgement about you rather than about the tool.
Will it make up stories about my life?+
Yes, and this is the most serious failure in ghostwriting specifically. Ask for a post about a lesson you learned and it will supply the lesson wrapped in a story: the customer call in year two, the hire that did not work out. Well-shaped, plausible and invented, because a post of that kind has a story in it and you did not give one. A fabricated statistic has a source and is correctable. A fabricated memory published under your name has nothing to check it against except you. Forbid all anecdote and require placeholders instead.
What is the best way to get a piece that is genuinely mine?+
Do not prompt, talk. Record five minutes of voice notes saying what you actually think, badly, with the real examples in it, transcribe it, and hand over the transcript with an instruction to use only what is in it. Every fact, memory and opinion in the finished piece then came from you, and the model is doing what a ghostwriter is actually for: structure and sentences, not substance. It is the highest-value workflow on this subject and the least used.
How do I check whether a draft sounds like me?+
Not by asking yourself, and not by asking the model. You will accept almost anything fluent, especially if it flatters you slightly, and it will tell you yes. Name a specific person who has read your writing for years or heard you talk - a co-founder, an old colleague, a sibling - describe them honestly including what you are like when you are wrong, and ask which sentences they would stop at and why. Ask for quotes, not a verdict.
Is using AI to ghostwrite dishonest?+
Ghostwriting has a century of legitimate practice behind it, and the standard has always been that the substance genuinely belongs to the person named. Bring your own ideas, examples and opinions and have a tool help you write them down and you are doing what a ghostwriter has always done. It stops being that where the writing is the assessment of you personally - coursework, exams, application essays, professional portfolios you sign as unaided work - and where the venue has a disclosure rule.
Do I have to disclose that AI helped write something?+
It depends entirely on the venue, and the answer comes from the venue rather than from a chat window. Medical and scientific journals following the ICMJE recommendations require authors to disclose at submission whether they used AI-assisted technologies and how, and do not list chatbots as authors because they cannot be responsible for the accuracy, integrity and originality of the work. That is one field's rule, not a universal one. Publishers, employers, awards and platforms each set their own and change them, so check the specific one and do not ask the model what its policy is.
How do I install the Charlotte skill?+
The download is a ZIP with SKILL.md at the root of the archive rather than inside a nested folder, which is the usual reason an upload fails. In the Claude desktop app open Customize, then Skills, upload the ZIP and toggle it on. Skills need code execution enabled, under Settings then Capabilities. Anthropic's help centre currently lists Skills on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, while its Academy tutorial lists Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, so if you are on the free plan check Settings then Capabilities for your own account rather than trusting either page. In ChatGPT or Gemini there is no upload step, so open SKILL.md, copy the contents and paste them into custom instructions.
