Measure the manuscript before choosing a grid or a type size 2. Build style hierarchies so late edits do not detonate the layout 3. Set hyphenation and justification deliberately, then check rivers 4. Calculate spine width from real paper bulk, not from an estimate 5. Deliver a handoff pack the printer will accept without questions Not a substitute for your printer's template and specifications. Confirm paper bulk, trim and binding with the printer before finalising the cover.
