Forty turns is a buffer, not memory - start on the write path, the part everyone skips: extract facts and commitments per session ('prefers invoices monthly', 'refund promised by Friday'), dedupe, supersede conflicts, and store typed records - episodic versus semantic matters at retrieval time. The read path then pulls by relevance plus recency into a 500-800 token budget, not a transcript dump. Promises get their own store with due dates - that is the complaint you're actually fixing - and decay ages out what nothing references. What does a session look like in your product: support threads or ongoing projects?
