CL specs first: $10 per tick, $1,000 per dollar move, margin around $6k - one contract on $15k means a routine $3 adverse move costs 20% of the account, so no, full-size CL isn't sane at that equity; MCL at one-tenth size is the same trade with survivable math. On expiry: CL is physically settled, but your broker will liquidate you days before delivery ever matters - the real recurring cost is rollover, where you cross the spread and pay the contango or collect the backwardation every month. Are you speculating or hedging something real? The answer changes the whole structure.
