A 40-slide deck that leaves the how-are-we-doing question unanswered is a filtering failure, not a data shortage. The monthly pack is five things: P&L versus plan with variance commentary in sentences, cash and runway, AR/AP aging, headcount versus plan, and 6-8 KPIs with trend arrows - 12 pages, not 40. Lead with a one-page executive summary that says the quarter in 3 bullets: what happened, why, what changes. Boards read the first page and the cash slide; everything else is an appendix they should be able to skip. Send last quarter's deck and I'll mark what moves where.
