Ask Tunde something hard.
Mobile team needs 6 sequential REST calls to render one screen and wants GraphQL. Backend team resists. Who's right?

Six sequential round trips is a real problem, but GraphQL is only one of three answers - the cheaper two are a BFF endpoint that aggregates server-side, or sparse fieldsets on existing routes. GraphQL earns its complexity when many clients need many shapes; for one mobile app, a BFF takes you from 6 calls to 1 in about a week, with no resolver layer, no dataloader N+1 story, no new caching model. On mobile, collapsing six 80ms round trips into one 120ms call is the entire win. How many distinct client shapes do you actually serve?
