What is a competitor analysis generator?
A competitor analysis generator turns a list of rival names into a structured analysis you can actually complete. This free competitor analysis generator asks for your company, up to five competitors, your market and your customer, and returns the whole framework: eight comparison dimensions, the specific question to answer for each rival, and the place that answer is usually found.
It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere, no account is needed, and no competitor website is visited or scraped. That is a deliberate design choice, not a limitation we are hiding: the findings that change a decision come from reading three-star reviews and pricing pages properly, and a tool that skims a homepage and writes a confident paragraph gives you something that reads like research without being research.
The eight dimensions it compares
- Positioning - who the rival says it is for, in their own words, not yours.
- Pricing model - the number matters less than the unit: seat, usage, flat or one-off.
- Entry point - the cheapest way to become a paying customer, which reveals who they are optimising for.
- Core promise - the single outcome above the fold.
- Proof - what makes that promise believable: logos, numbers or cases.
- Ideal customer - who they actually serve, judged by reviews rather than copy.
- Distribution - where their attention comes from.
- Weak spot - the complaint that repeats in three-star reviews.
How to run a competitor analysis that gets used
Start from the decision, not the competitors
Write down the one decision this analysis has to inform before you open a single competitor tab. Pricing change, positioning change, which feature to build next. An analysis with no decision behind it gets circulated once and never opened again.
Read three-star reviews, not five or one
Five-star reviews tell you about enthusiasts and one-star reviews tell you about billing disputes. Three-star reviews are written by people who use the product, like parts of it and can articulate what is wrong. That is where a rival's real weak spot lives.
Compare pricing units before prices
Two competitors charging roughly the same amount per month can be selling to entirely different buyers if one charges per seat and the other per invoice processed. The unit tells you who the product is designed around.
Look for the sameness
The most useful finding in most competitive analyses is not a difference but a similarity: the need every rival describes in almost identical language. Categories converge on the customer everyone already knows how to sell to, and the segment nobody is speaking to is usually sitting right next to it.
Finish with one move
One. A competitive analysis that ends in a list of nine recommendations has not been finished, it has been abandoned at the interesting part.
Competitor analysis generator: frequently asked questions
Is this competitor analysis generator free?
Yes, completely. No account, no email, no trial. Enter your competitors, pick an output, and you get the full analysis back in the browser. You can run it as many times as you like.
Does it research my competitors for me?
No, and it is worth being plain about that. This tool does not visit competitor websites, read their pricing pages or pull their reviews. What it builds is the analysis itself: which dimensions are worth comparing, the exact question to answer for each rival, and where that answer is normally found. The research is yours to run, which is also why the output is not full of confident numbers that nobody checked.
Why is that better than a tool that claims to do the research?
Because a short automated scrape of a homepage produces summaries that read well and cannot be trusted. The parts of a competitive analysis that change a decision - what customers complain about, which pricing unit signals which buyer, which promise every rival makes identically - come from reading three-star reviews and pricing pages properly. A structure that tells you exactly what to look for gets you there; a generated paragraph does not.
What is the difference between the three outputs?
The comparison matrix gives you eight dimensions to fill in for yourself and every rival, side by side, and is the right choice when you need a single view of the field. SWOT per rival goes one competitor at a time and suits a deeper look at two or three. The research brief is a sequence of six steps and is the one to pick if you have not started yet and want to know what to do first.
How many competitors should I analyse?
Three to five. Fewer than three and you cannot tell a category convention from a company's choice. More than five and the analysis stops being finished, which is the usual way competitive research dies. If you have a list of twelve, pick the three you actually lose deals to and the one you never lose to but keep hearing about.
What should I do with the prompt at the bottom of the result?
Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or whatever assistant you use. It carries your company, market, customer and rival names, and it instructs the model to work one competitor at a time and to flag which of its answers are inference rather than something it can cite. That last instruction matters more than the rest.
Is a SWOT analysis still useful for competitors?
It is useful as a container and useless as an answer. The four quadrants stop you forgetting a category, but a SWOT filled with adjectives changes nothing. Force every entry to point at evidence: a review you read, a price you saw, a page you can link. If a quadrant has nothing you can point at, leave it empty rather than filling it with a guess.
Can an AI do the whole competitive teardown instead?
It can do most of the legwork if you give it a method, which is what a skill file is. The Competitor Intelligence Analyst Skill walks an AI chat through positioning, pricing, messaging and proof one rival at a time and holds it to citing its sources, which is the part a plain prompt usually skips. You still make the call at the end, but you are reading evidence rather than assembling it.
When you want the analysis run, not just structured
The framework above is the part a tool can give you honestly. Filling it in is reading, and reading is where an AI assistant earns its place - if you give it a method rather than a one-line prompt. The Competitor Intelligence Analyst Skill turns Claude, ChatGPT or any AI chat into an analyst that works one rival at a time through positioning, pricing, messaging and proof, and holds itself to separating what it can cite from what it is inferring.
