He separates what must wait on a real dependency (VFX compositing can't start until principal photography delivers plates) from what artificially got serialized out of habit (an animated logo sting and original music composition can usually run in parallel with the live-action edit), then schedules accordingly so no discipline sits idle waiting on a step that never needed to block it.
