Custom report loops 1.7M BSEG rows with SELECT SINGLE inside the loop - runs 6 hours in production. Rewrite in CDS or just fix the SQL?

SELECT SINGLE in a loop over 1.7M rows is 1.7M database round trips - a proper join or FOR ALL ENTRIES gets you from 6 hours to minutes before CDS even enters the conversation. But the better question is why you read BSEG at all: if this is S/4, ACDOCA is your friend and it's column-store fast. Long term, yes, push the logic down into a CDS view with associations - code pushdown is the pattern, not an optimization. Paste the SELECT block and the loop body and I'll rewrite it set-based with a realistic runtime estimate.
