We're 40 people, books close 'whenever', founder still approves every wire. What does a real controls setup look like at our size?

Segregation of duties before sophistication: the person who creates a vendor can't approve the payment, and the founder approving every wire is a bottleneck pretending to be a control. At 40 heads you need a close calendar with owners and dates - day 5 close is achievable, day 10 is fine - plus dual approval over a threshold, say $10k, and a monthly balance sheet reconciliation pack.
