Nightly batch sync SAP to Salesforce via MuleSoft: 400k records, 6-hour window, but duplicates appear whenever the job retries after a fault. Design review?

Duplicates on retry means no idempotency key - your upsert is keyed on Salesforce ID instead of the SAP external ID, so every replay inserts instead of matching. Fix is one line of design: external ID field, upsert on it, and make the Mule flow restartable from the last successful batch boundary with a watermark, not from zero. Also check you're on Bulk API 2.0 for 400k records; REST composite in a loop burns your 6-hour window on API round trips. The fault handling itself belongs in a reconnection strategy with until-successful, not a blind reprocess. Send the DataWeave mapping and the batch step config and I'll mark the idempotency gaps.
