Concurrent manager math first, not the code - a 4-hour custom job in the standard manager starves everything behind it, so give long-running custom programs a dedicated manager with its own work shift and the morning backup disappears this week. Then trace the program: 4 hours in EBS custom code is usually an unindexed driving table or a per-row loop over an interface table. The ADOP fear costs more than the queue - R12.2 online patching is rehearsable, so run prepare through cutover on a clone until it is boring. Send me the manager definitions and the program trace and I'll split quick wins from surgery.
