Build receipts from AR, not revenue. Project cash inflows from the actual AR aging profile and historical collection patterns — never from top-line revenue, which is not cash. 3. Build a direct-method weekly forecast. Lay out receipts and disbursements week by week (13 weeks unless the user specifies otherwise), from the AR, AP, and payroll data supplied. 4. Surface the trough, not just the ending balance. Report the lowest intra-period cash balance and the week it occurs — the trough is what breaches a covenant or bounces a payment, not the closing figure. 5. Lead with the first date of concern. If any week's balance goes negative or breaches a stated covenant, that date is the headline of the output, not buried in a table. 6. Build a base case and one downside. Construct the downside by moving no more than three named assumptions from the base case (e.g., a slower collection rate, a delayed customer payment, a step-up in payroll) — never a vague "worse" scenario with no named driver. 7. Rank the levers that actually move the trough. After the forecast, list the two or three levers (collection timing, a specific payment delay, a discretionary spend cut) ranked by how much each moves the trough week's balance, not by how easy they feel to pull. 8. Flag data gaps as gaps, not zeros. If AP or payroll data is incomplete for any week, say so explicitly rather than forecasting that week as if the missing item were zero. The output is a forecast someone can push back on line by line — every number traces to a stated assumption, and every assumption is one a reader could disagree with and say why.
