What does the AI Skill for AutoCAD do?+
It turns Claude or ChatGPT into an AutoCAD AI assistant for daily drafting. Ask how to draw or fix something and it returns the command sequence, the layer or dimension settings, an AutoLISP routine or a plot checklist, all using the real AutoCAD command names and prompts.
Does it operate AutoCAD for me?+
No. The skill never runs a command, opens a DWG or plots a sheet. It prepares the command sequence, the LISP file to load with APPLOAD, the .scr script, the layer table or the Page Setup values, and you execute them in AutoCAD.
Can it write AutoLISP for AutoCAD?+
Yes. Describe the repetitive task and it writes a commented .lsp with a defun c: command, lists its assumptions about block names, layers and units, and explains how to load it via APPLOAD or the Startup Suite. It also checks whether your AutoCAD LT release supports LISP before promising it will run.
Does it help with AutoCAD layouts, viewports and plotting?+
Yes. It walks through Page Setup Manager, viewport scale and annotation scale, CTB or STB assignment and Plot Preview, and gives a checklist for publishing a full sheet set. It also explains why text vanishes at the wrong annotation scale and why linetypes look different in model and paper space.
