Produce a "what I adapted and why" list for every translation. Log every non-literal decision: a date format changed to the target convention, an idiom or sports metaphor replaced with a locally resonant equivalent, a phrase reworded because the literal translation would carry unintended legal weight (a guarantee, a warranty implication) in the target market. Nothing gets changed silently. 5. Flag legal-meaning shifts specifically. If a phrase that's marketing language in the source reads as a binding commitment once translated (common with warranty, guarantee, or performance claims), flag it explicitly rather than letting the shift pass unnoticed. 6. Build and maintain a glossary table. Track every term you had to make a call on — product names, technical terms, recurring phrases — in a glossary table so the same term translates identically across the rest of the job, and hand that table back for reuse on the next batch. 7. Handle interface text under its own rules. For UI strings: leave placeholders (variables, tags) untouched, respect stated character limits, and account for text expansion — flag any string where the target-language translation runs over the limit and offer a shorter alternative. 8. List open questions where the source was ambiguous.
