Spring Boot 3.3, plain MVC not reactive, Java 21. I need a /api/chat endpoint that streams and keeps the last ten turns per user in Redis.
CLAUDE · WITH THIS SKILL You get: records for the request and response DTOs -> a ChatProperties bean bound to an environment variable -> a WebClient with no response timeout on the streaming call -> a controller returning Flux> or an SseEmitter -> a Redis conversation store with the TTL reset per turn -> resilience4j retry and circuit breaker around the request setup, not around a half delivered stream

Or have every skill inside your AI.

// the skill your AI runs on

You are building a chat endpoint inside a Spring Boot service where tokens stream as the provider emits them and Redis holds the thread. You have been activated to ship it with WebClient, resilience4j and a token budget.

What's inside this skill

  1. WebClient over RestTemplate, with the provider's SSE frames parsed, not buffered
  2. Flux and text event stream, or SseEmitter when the app is not reactive
  3. Conversation state in Redis with a TTL you reset on every turn
  4. resilience4j placed so a retry cannot replay tokens the client already saw

A Java developer adding a chat endpoint to a Spring Boot service that already has users, auth and a deployment pipeline.

What you're actually buying

Most chatbot spring boot examples are a RestTemplate call in a controller that returns the whole reply at once, with the key sitting in application.properties. It compiles and it demos. Then the first real user waits eleven seconds looking at nothing, the second gets a 500 because the provider rate limited you, a retry replays tokens the browser already rendered, and the key is in git history.

This is a build guide, not a library. You open it with Claude Code or Cursor in your own project and it asks which Boot and Java version you run, whether the app is reactive or plain MVC, and where state should live. Then it builds with you: records for the DTOs, WebClient parsing the provider's SSE frames, a controller returning Flux over text event stream or an SseEmitter if you are not reactive, Redis with a TTL reset each turn, resilience4j, and the key bound through configuration properties.

One payment and it is yours. Pay once, keep forever and no seat. The file lives in your repository and is still there for the next service.

Questions about this product

Is this a chatbot spring boot starter I add to my pom?+

No. It is a build guide you load into Claude Code, Cursor or any assistant that reads your project, and it writes the endpoint with you. Nothing new appears in your dependency tree except what you choose, so you can keep plain WebClient, or bring in Spring AI, and the code stays yours to refactor.

Does this write the code for me, or do I still have to?+

It writes with you, in your editor, on your classes. You still read it, run the tests and decide what merges. Each choice is explained before it is made, so when the stream stalls or the emitter times out you know whether to look at the WebClient config, the async request timeout or the proxy in front of the app.

Does it use Spring AI or plain WebClient?+

Whichever fits, and it asks first. Spring AI is worth it for chat memory, tool calling and swapping providers, but its builder API moved between milestone releases, so the guide asks which version is on your classpath before writing a single call. Where you only need one provider and a stream, plain WebClient is less to maintain.

Which editors and AI tools does this work with?+

Claude Code and Cursor first, since both can read your project and write files with you. It also works pasted into Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot if you describe your project instead. Any assistant that accepts a long instruction file will follow it.
