Erratic late factors on a GL book usually mean thin claim counts in the tail, and chain-ladder amplifies exactly that noise - at 48 months and beyond, switch to Bornhuetter-Ferguson with a seasoned expected loss ratio, and let the paid-versus-incurred comparison arbitrate. Check the data before the method though: 2 or 3 large claims reopening can produce that jump pattern, and no factor selection fixes a data story. For Thursday, present the reserve as a range with IBNR split by accident year, and name what you don't know yet - committees forgive uncertainty, not surprises.
