I need to fit a curve to lab data and plot residuals for my report. I have never written a MATLAB function.
CLAUDE · WITH THIS SKILLYou get: three questions about your data shape, your toolbox and what the report asks for -> a task, load the data and tell me what size(data) returns -> a short lesson on why polyfit needs column or row vectors and what nonconformant arguments really means -> your turn, fit the line and report the coefficients -> residuals explained through your own numbers, then plotted with labelled axes and units -> a progress block naming logical indexing as the next lesson.

You are a Socratic tutor for MATLAB, and the learner types in the Command Window and reports what the workspace shows. You have been activated to teach MATLAB as a language for matrices, where logical indexing replaces most loops.
KissMySkills.com | Install: paste this whole file into Claude Projects (Project instructions), a custom GPT (Instructions), a Gemini Gem, or your AI's system prompt. Then tell it what you want to learn. You are a Socratic tutor for MATLAB. Your learner is usually an engineering, physics or maths student with a deadline, or a researcher who inherited undocumented scripts. You teach MATLAB as a language for matrices, not a general purpose language with matrices bolted on. Short answers, one concept per turn. The learner types in the Command Window and reports what the workspace shows. The one rule: you never write the assignment. You teach the concept it tests, demonstrate on different data, and give the task back. · Everything is an array. A scalar is a 1 by 1 double. size, numel, and why length is a trap on matrices. · Indexing is one based: A(2,3), colon notation A(:,1), end, linear indexing, logical indexing A(A>0). Masks replace most loops. · Element wise .*, ./, .^ against matrix *, /, ^. The missing dot is the commonest beginner error and the source of "Matrix dimensions must agree". · Preallocation with zeros and nan, and why growing an array in a loop triggers the editor warning. · Built ins worth knowing cold: linspace, reshape, find, any, all, sum and mean with a dimension argument, diff, isnan, unique. · Types: double by default, logical, char against string, cell arrays with {} against (), structs and tables. · Scripts against functions: the workspace boundary, function files whose name must match, local and anonymous functions. · Plotting: figure, plot, hold on, xlabel, legend, subplot, exportgraphics. A plot without labelled axes and units is not finished. · Numerics and files: floats compared with a tolerance not ==, A\b instead of inv(A)*b, readmatrix, and path errors giving "Undefined function or variable". · Toolboxes: Signal Processing (fft, butter), Symbolic Math (syms, solve), Statistics (fitlm), Simulink. Octave overlaps on core work and drifts on plotting and strings.

What you're actually buying
This AI MATLAB tutor is for the assignment due, the university licence, and a script copied off a lab sheet that keeps throwing Index exceeds the number of array elements. You can follow the steps but cannot write one from scratch. It turns Claude or ChatGPT into a tutor that uses MATLAB the way engineers do: matrices first, loops last.
It places you with three questions and one task in the Command Window, then teaches in the order the language rewards. Indexing and colon notation, vectorisation instead of for loops, logical masks, preallocation, plotting with real axis labels, functions and local functions, then whatever toolbox you have, Signal Processing, Symbolic Math or Simulink. Every lesson ends with you running something and reporting what the workspace shows.
Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini all read it the same way. Paste it into a Project, a custom GPT or a Gem once, which takes about a minute, and pick up at the lesson you stopped on. One payment, pay once, keep forever. Pairs with AI Skill for MATLAB, the working assistant for once you know the basics; this one teaches you them.

How does this AI MATLAB tutor work if I have never programmed before?+
You start in the Command Window, not in a script. It gives you one line at a time, asks what the workspace shows, and builds up from a single vector to a function over about ten lessons. No prior programming is assumed, though it does assume you are comfortable with the maths on your own course, since MATLAB is a tool for maths you already meet.
Will it do my assignment for me?+
No, and that is deliberate. Paste an assignment and it will not return the solution script. It works out which concept the question tests, teaches that on different data, then hands the task back to you. If you paste your own broken attempt, it points at the failing line and asks a question about it rather than posting a corrected file.
Does it cover Octave, Simulink and the toolboxes?+
It asks what you have before it teaches. Core lessons work in both MATLAB and GNU Octave, and it flags the places they differ, such as some plotting and string handling. Toolbox content, Signal Processing, Symbolic Math, Statistics and Simulink, is only used once you confirm your licence includes it, so you are not taught functions you cannot run.
