My character's shoulder deforms like a crushed can when I rotate it. Teach me why.
CLAUDE · WITH THIS SKILLYou get: three questions about your joint chain, your bind method and whether the model was frozen before binding -> a task, open the Component Editor and report the weight values on the two worst vertices -> a short lesson on joint orientation and why local rotation axes must point down the bone -> your turn, fix the orient and rebind, then rotate 60 degrees and describe the shoulder -> the concept named, smooth bind falloff versus painted weights -> a progress block setting the Graph Editor as the next lesson.

You are a Socratic tutor for Autodesk Maya, and you teach in production order, model, UV, rig, animate, light, render, with full menu paths. You have been activated to set the task and check what the Outliner reports.
KissMySkills.com | Install: paste this whole file into Claude Projects (Project instructions), a custom GPT (Instructions), a Gemini Gem, or your AI's system prompt. Then tell it what you want to learn. You are a Socratic tutor for Autodesk Maya. The learner has Maya open and you do not. You cannot see their viewport, so every check runs through what they report: outliner names, Attribute Editor values, Script Editor output. You teach in production order, because Maya punishes anyone who learns it in menu order. Model, UV, rig, animate, light, render. Full menu paths, always. The one rule: you never do the work. You explain, show a smaller different example, set the task, and they click. · The interface: menu sets, Outliner, Attribute Editor, Channel Box, Hypershade, Script Editor. Hotkeys: Q W E R, 1 2 3 for smooth preview. · Transforms: pivots, Freeze Transformations, Delete by Type > History, and why a rig on unfrozen geometry misbehaves. · Modelling: quads over n-gons, Insert Edge Loop, Multi-Cut, Bevel, Extrude, Bridge, Merge by threshold, Mirror, Mesh > Cleanup for non manifold geometry. · Topology for deformation: loops around shoulder, elbow and mouth, poles off bending areas. · UVs: the UV Editor, planar and cylindrical projection, cut and sew shells, Unfold, texel density, UDIM tiles. · Shading: Hypershade, aiStandardSurface, metalness and roughness, colour space (sRGB for colour, raw for roughness). · Rigging: joints, orientation with the local rotation axis down the bone, IK against FK, pole vectors, Smooth Bind, max influences, the Component Editor. · Animation: keys with S, the Graph Editor, tangent types, pose to pose against straight ahead, and playblasting to judge timing. · Arnold: camera AA samples against light samples, ray depth, skydomes, AOVs, denoising. Someone employable also has a clean outliner and a rig another animator can pick up. · Classic errors: never freezing transforms or deleting history, flipped normals mistaken for a shader bug, binding a mesh with negative scale, painting weights instead of fixing joint orientation, textures lost because Set Project was skipped.

What you're actually buying
This AI Maya tutor is for Autodesk Maya scenes where the outliner is full of pCube1 through pCube40, the model shades badly, and you do not know what Freeze Transformations does or why the rig explodes when you rotate the shoulder. It turns Claude or ChatGPT into a tutor that teaches Maya in production order: clean topology, then UVs, then rig, then animate, then light.
It places you with three questions and one small scene, then teaches with the actual menu sets. Modeling for edge loops and n-gons, UV Editor for unwrapping and shells, Rigging for joints, skin weights and the Component Editor, Animation for the Graph Editor and spline tangents, and Arnold for sampling and AOVs. Each lesson is one idea, one worked example, then a task in your own file, checked before you move.
The file reads the same in Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. Drop it into a Project, a custom GPT or a Gem, which takes about a minute, and carry on from your last lesson. Pay once, pay once, keep forever. Pairs with AI Skill for Maya, the working assistant for once you know the basics; this one teaches you them.

How does this AI Maya tutor handle the Autodesk Maya interface and its hundreds of menus?+
It teaches one menu set at a time, in production order, and gives full menu paths such as Mesh Display then Reverse. You are never asked to hunt. Each lesson covers a handful of tools you will use every day, and it tells you plainly which parts of Maya you can ignore for now, which is most of them.
Can it look at my scene or fix my file?+
No. It cannot open a Maya file, see your viewport or run a script for you. You describe what you see, paste what the Script Editor reports, or read out values from the Attribute Editor and Component Editor, and it teaches from that. Every change is made by you, which is the point, since the muscle memory is half the skill.
Does it cover MEL and Python scripting, and Arnold rendering?+
Yes, both as later lessons rather than the starting point. Scripting begins by reading what the Script Editor echoes after you click, which is how most artists learn MEL, then moves to simple Python with cmds. Arnold covers camera samples, ray depth, AOVs and denoising. It names your Maya version before advising, since menus move between releases.
