There is no single best one, because the catalogues split into two kinds that solve different problems. Free directories index skills published on GitHub. They are large, they cost nothing, and they are the right place to start if you just want to see what a skill file looks like. The trade-off is that a crawl is unfiltered: duplicates, abandoned repos and half-finished files sit next to good ones, and nobody has checked which is which. A paid marketplace sells a smaller, written catalogue, where someone has written the file for a specific job and checked that it produces what it promises. Pick free while you are exploring. Because the free catalogues are indexes, not products. A directory advertising tens of thousands of skills is reporting how many files its crawler found on GitHub, not how many are worth installing, so the filtering is your job. A paid file removes that step: it is written for one role, it names what it needs from you before it starts, and it says so when something is missing instead of inventing a number. If the task is occasional, the free route is fine. If it is a report you rebuild every month, an hour spent sorting free files costs more than the file.
