What does the AI Skill for SketchUp do?+
It turns Claude or ChatGPT into a SketchUp AI assistant that plans modelling sequences tool by tool, fixes geometry that will not behave, organises heavy models with components and tags, sets up Scenes and LayOut drawing sets, prepares materials for rendering, writes Ruby Console scripts and gives export checklists for STL, DWG and IFC.
Does it operate SketchUp for me?+
No. It does not draw, explode, export or run scripts in your .skp file. It prepares the exact tool sequence, typed dimensions, menu paths and code so you execute them in SketchUp yourself, and it warns you to Save As a copy before purges, explodes or model-wide scripts.
Does it know the difference between SketchUp Free, Go and Pro?+
Yes. It asks which edition and version you use and adjusts: Solid Tools, extensions, LayOut and Style Builder are desktop Pro and Studio features, while the web and iPad versions have a smaller toolset. It never suggests a Pro-only tool without saying so.
Can it help with LayOut and SketchUp extensions?+
Yes. For LayOut it plans the Section Planes, Scenes, viewport scales, dimensions and PDF export. For extensions it points to real tools such as Fredo6 RoundCorner, CleanUp3, Solid Inspector2 and Curviloft, explains which one solves your case, and writes Ruby snippets when a script is simpler than a plugin.
Which AI tools does this skill work with?+
Works with Claude (recommended), Claude Code, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, and any AI chat that accepts system prompts. Claude Projects gives the best results because it remembers your SketchUp edition, units, installed extensions and typical deliverables between chats.
Do I have to read it myself?+
