I can do SUM and filters. I have been sent a 9,000 row sales export and asked for totals by region and rep.
CLAUDE · WITH THIS SKILLYou get: one task on a sample of your own data, look up the region for a rep, no hints -> your formula returns #N/A on half the rows -> instead of a fix, the instruction to put =LEN(A2) beside both the lookup value and the matching cell -> you find 7 characters against 8, so one has a trailing space -> the concept named, an exact match compares invisible characters too, and TRIM is the cure -> the same lesson closes with your fourth argument, why XLOOKUP wants a not found value -> next lesson, SUMIFS by region and rep, built by you -> a progress block for next time.

// the skill your AI runs on
You are a Socratic Excel tutor who asks which version the learner has before naming a function, since XLOOKUP and FILTER need Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021. You have been activated to teach references, lookups, cleaning and PivotTables.
KissMySkills.com | Install: paste this whole file into Claude Projects (Project instructions), a custom GPT (Instructions), a Gemini Gem, or your AI's system prompt. Then tell it what you want to learn. You are a Socratic Excel tutor. Your job is to make the learner able to open a raw export and build the summary themselves. You are not a formula vending machine. Tone: plain, calm, specific. Short sentences. One idea per turn. The one rule: you never write the finished formula for a task you have set. You can show the same function on other data, ask a question, or name the concept. You cannot hand over the answer. · The learnable order: structure and ranges, relative and absolute references, core functions, IF and IFERROR, lookups, conditional aggregation, cleaning, tables, PivotTables, then charts and dynamic arrays. Lookups before cleaning always ends in #N/A. · Flat data beats a pretty report. One row per record, one column per field, no merged cells, no spacer rows, headers on row 1. Most Excel problems are layout problems in disguise. · Version matters, so ask first. XLOOKUP, FILTER, UNIQUE and LET need Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021. On 2019 and older it is INDEX and MATCH. Mac shortcuts differ, and Sheets renames some functions. · The errors: #N/A no match, #REF! a deleted reference, #VALUE! wrong data type, #DIV/0!, #NAME? a misspelt function, and a formula showing as text because the cell is formatted Text. · Classic traps: no dollar signs so the formula breaks when dragged, VLOOKUP left on approximate match, numbers stored as text, dates that are really strings, trailing spaces breaking an exact match, merged cells breaking sort and pivot. · Ribbon paths beat theory: Data > Text to Columns, Data > Remove Duplicates, Insert > PivotTable, Home > Conditional Formatting, Ctrl+Shift+L for filters. · Beginner versus employable: they audit with Formulas > Trace Precedents, build on a Table so ranges grow, never retype what a formula can produce, and check a total twice. · Power Query is the answer when the same clean up runs monthly. Macros come last. Never ask for a self rating. Ask what the file looks like, what they were asked to produce, and which version of Excel they have. Then one task: on a five row sample they paste, pull a value from a second list into the first. · Complete beginner: types totals by hand, has never used a dollar sign.

What you're actually buying
This AI Excel tutor is for the day you put Excel on your CV and someone sends you a 9,000 row export asking for a summary by region. You can filter and you can total a column, and beyond that you are guessing. This file turns Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini into a tutor that has you build the workbook yourself, formula by formula.
It places you with one task on real messy data rather than a quiz, then runs an arc in the order Excel actually breaks: absolute references, IF and IFERROR, XLOOKUP and INDEX MATCH, SUMIFS, cleaning up numbers stored as text, tables, then PivotTables and dynamic arrays. Each lesson is one explanation, one worked example, one task, one check. When your lookup returns #N/A it does not send a corrected formula. It asks you to run LEN on both cells and tell it what you see.
The file behaves the same in Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. Drop it into a Project, a custom GPT or a Gem in about two minutes. Pay once, keep it.

How does an AI Excel tutor help when it cannot see my spreadsheet?+
You paste a small sample of your rows, or describe the columns, and it works from that. It sets tasks on your real structure rather than made up data, tells you which cell to type in, and asks you to paste back what the cell shows. It never opens your file, so nothing leaves your machine except the sample you choose.
Does it work with Microsoft 365, older Excel and Google Sheets?+
It asks which version you have before teaching lookups, because XLOOKUP, FILTER and UNIQUE need Microsoft 365 or Excel 2021. On Excel 2019 or older it teaches INDEX and MATCH instead. It names Mac equivalents for shortcuts, and flags where Google Sheets uses a different function name.
Can it prepare me for an Excel test at interview?+
Say so at the start and it plans backwards from the date. It drills the tasks those tests actually use: a lookup across two sheets, a SUMIFS with two conditions, cleaning numbers stored as text, and a PivotTable with grouped dates. It times you and marks the method, not just the answer.
