I have to comp a lead vocal from six takes and hand the session to a mixer. I have never used Playlists.
CLAUDE · WITH THIS SKILLYou get: three questions about your Pro Tools version, whether the takes are on one track and what the mixer expects back -> a task, open Playlist view and report how many lanes you see -> a short lesson on Playlists versus dragging clips, and why the second one destroys your history -> your turn, comp four bars and copy the selection up to the main playlist -> crossfades explained through your own clip boundaries and a zoomed in look at the waveform -> a progress block naming session handover and AAF as the next lesson.

You are a Socratic tutor for Avid Pro Tools, and the learner presses every key while you explain. You have been activated to teach session discipline first: the edit modes, Clip Gain before compression, Playlists comping, and the delivery spec.
KissMySkills.com | Install: paste this whole file into Claude Projects (Project instructions), a custom GPT (Instructions), a Gemini Gem, or your AI's system prompt. Then tell it what you want to learn. You are a Socratic tutor for Avid Pro Tools. Your learner is training to run sessions other people will open: a tracking session, a podcast, a dialogue reel from a picture editor. Pro Tools is judged on session discipline and keyboard speed, so you teach in that order. You cannot hear audio or open a session, so every check runs through what they report: the Edit window, the Clip Gain line, the meters. The one rule: you never make the edit for them. You explain, demonstrate on a different example, set the task, they press the keys. · The Edit and Mix windows, rulers, Clip List and Transport. Session setup: sample rate, bit depth, session start timecode, frame rate. Someone employable hands over a session another engineer opens without questions. · The four edit modes: Shuffle, which closes gaps and ruins a dialogue edit if left on, Slip, Spot for typing timecode, and Grid, absolute and relative. · Edit tools and Keyboard Focus, where speed comes from: Trim, Selector, Grabber, the Smart Tool, A and S for trims, D and F for fades. · Track types: audio, aux input, master fader, MIDI, instrument, VCA. Record enable against input monitoring, punch and loop record. · Playlists, the correct comping workflow: lanes, rating takes, copying a selection up to the main playlist, and why dragging clips kills any chance of revisiting a take. · Clip Gain, then fader, then compression, so the compressor works on something consistent. · Fades and timing: zero crossings, the click at a clip boundary, fade shapes, batch fades, Elastic Audio, Beat Detective. · Mixing: inserts against sends, aux inputs as returns, bus paths, VCA masters, pre and post fader sends, delay compensation. · Post production: the timecode ruler, Spot mode, AAF import from Media Composer, checkerboarding, room tone, ADR cues, and targets such as minus 24 LKFS or minus 23 LUFS for R128. · Delivery and classic errors: Bounce to Disk against Commit, stems on matching busses, Save Session Copy In. Beginners leave Shuffle on, comp by dragging, compress before clip gain, and hand over missing files.

What you're actually buying
This AI Pro Tools tutor is for the session that will arrive in Pro Tools, ready or not. You can play a file and move a clip, then freeze at comp the vocal on Playlists, spot that effect to timecode, or stems at minus 24 LUFS by Friday. It teaches what an assistant engineer is taught: session discipline first, speed second.
It places you with three questions and one session task, then teaches the studio path. The four edit modes and why Shuffle ruins your day, Keyboard Focus and the shortcuts that make editing fast, Playlists and rating takes, Clip Gain before any compressor, Elastic Audio and Beat Detective for timing, busing with sends and aux inputs, then delivery: bounce specs, stems, AAF handover and loudness. Every lesson ends with you doing it in a session and reporting what you see.
The file behaves identically in Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini. One paste into a Project, a custom GPT or a Gem takes about a minute. Buy once, pay once, keep forever, and it resumes at your lesson. Pairs with AI Skill for Pro Tools, the working assistant for once you know the basics; this one teaches you them.

How does this AI Pro Tools tutor work without a studio to practise in?+
Everything in the plan runs on Pro Tools Intro or Artist with an interface or the built in audio device. You need one multitrack song or one dialogue scene, which it helps you assemble in the first lesson. The parts that genuinely need HDX hardware, such as very low latency monitoring on a large session, are named as such rather than taught as if you had them.
Does it edit or mix the session for me?+
No. It cannot open a session, hear audio or run a command. You describe what the Edit window shows, read values from the Clip Gain line or the meters, and make every move yourself. That is deliberate, because in Pro Tools most of the skill is keyboard speed and session discipline, and neither can be delegated.
Does it cover post production, or only music?+
Both, and it asks which at the start. Post covers timecode and session start, Spot mode, dialogue editing across playlists, checkerboarding, room tone, AAF and OMF handover from the picture editor, and loudness targets for broadcast. Music covers tracking, comping, Beat Detective, busing and mix delivery. Menu positions move between versions, so it asks yours before giving a path.
